# Working with Layers In the [Design Editor](#/help/studio-design-editor), every object on the canvas — text, image, shape, icon, or QR code — is its own **layer**. Mastering layers is the key to clean, editable designs. ## The layer list A layer panel lists everything on the canvas, top to bottom. The topmost layer draws in front. From the list you can: - **Select** a layer (or shift-select several) to edit it. - **Reorder** — drag a layer up or down, or use *bring forward* / *send backward* to change stacking order. - **Rename** a layer so a busy design stays readable. ## Lock, hide, and group - **Lock** a layer to prevent accidental moves while you work on others. - **Hide / show** a layer with the eye toggle to compare variations. - **Group** related layers so they move and resize together; ungroup to edit a single piece. ## Transform Move, resize, and **rotate** any layer with its handles, or type exact position/size values. Set **opacity** and a **blend mode** per layer to control how it mixes with what's beneath it — covered in [layer effects & styles](#/help/studio-layer-effects). ## Duplicate & align Duplicate a layer to repeat an element, and use alignment/distribution helpers to snap layers into a tidy grid. When the layout is right, add [text and fonts](#/help/studio-text-and-fonts) or [apply effects](#/help/studio-layer-effects).
